out that there is a lot of work to do when it comes to managing
small groups. 

Whether your church is a church "of" groups or "with" groups, there is a serious amount of vision casting, "marketing", recruitment, administration and leadership development that must take place in order to have a healthy small group system.

You need a system for getting them into the right small group based on their preferences.

We assume that your church values meaningful relationships and helping people find friends that share life together.  It's a huge task to cast vision for this core value.  You have to do it through all the channels including Sunday morning services, your church website, email, social networking, blogging, and face to face meetings and more.  It's like a major marketing effort that a business would do to promote a product, but in this case, it's much more valuable.  It's a call to "buy into" group life so that lives will be transformed.

When people are ready to join you need a system for getting them into the right group based on their preferences of location, topic of study, meeting day & time, life stage and other factors.  One of the many ways to do this is to allow people to find a group via your website.  Or you may have a good follow up system where people are contacted individually and assisted with finding the right group.  Still another way is to invite people to a small group connection event where they form groups through a series of strategic exercises.
